What Fear Does to the Body, Mind, and Soul-Science meets Spirituality.
Fear is Physical- Body
Fear is felt in your mind, but it triggers a powerful physical reaction in your body. As soon as you acknowledge fear, your amygdala (small organ in the middle of your brain) goes to work. It signals your nervous system, which sets your body’s fear response into motion.
Cortisol and adrenaline are discharged. Your blood pressure and heart rate increase. You start breathing faster. Blood actually flows away from your heart and into your legs and arms, making it easier for you to start thrusting punches, or run for your life. Your body is adjusting for fight or flight!
Fear affects Mental Health-Mind
As some elements of your brain are preparing for flight or flight, other parts are shutting down. When the amygdala recieves fear, the cerebral cortex (area of the brain that harnesses reasoning and judgment) is reduced — so now it’s challenging to make good decisions or think clearly.
